Sequins & Ruffles Wedding Cake, Norfolk

Danielle & David Sizer
Hoveton Hall Gardens, Norfolk

I’ve been wanting to make a sequin wedding cake for so long, so I was delighted to get the opportunity for Danni & David’s wedding recently.

The top tier of the wedding cake is Madagascan Vanilla filled with buttercream and white chocolate ganache, middle tier of Spicy Carrot filled with buttercream and white chocolate ganache and the base tier is, my favourite, Chocolate Fudge filled with chocolate ganache buttercream and dark chocolate ganache… fortunately I get to treat myself to the tops off the cakes when layering and filling… I did enjoy the carrot with a cup of tea!

The cake was set up at Hoveton Hall Gardens, not far from Scrumptious Buns, so it wasn’t too hairy a delivery… although I always feel every bump when I’m delivering a stacked cake!

My 9 year old daughter came with me to help me set up the cake in the marquee, we did laugh as the noise from the bleating sheep in the grounds was so loud… they would keep the guests amused throughout the day, I’m sure 😉

The forecast wasn’t good for the day, but the rain stayed away allowing the happy couple to enjoy a beautiful late Spring afternoon wedding in the gorgeous grounds of the Hall.

Congratulations Danni & David, may you have many years of happiness together :) Sx

Beginners Cake Decorating Class

First Class at the Scrumptious Buns Cake School

There was a lot of planning to get to this stage, and sometimes I thought it might never happen – I was supposed to be in and teaching in February 2014!

All set up and ready to go… just waiting for my students!

Finally the day came and 5 lovely cakey ladies arrived ready to learn how to cover a 6″ round butter sponge.

Definitely got a touch of the nerves 30 minutes before arrival, but as soon as they were in it was fab, just as I’d imagined… my beautiful Cake School isn’t made for just 1, it’s made for lots of people! So enjoyed hearing the chatter and laughter throughout the day – sometimes forgetting I was teaching!!

Learning how to cover a 6″ round butter sponge with sugarpaste.

All 5 ladies did amazingly well, considering it was the hottest day of the year so far! If you’ve covered many a cake you will know what a nightmare the weather can be to your results!

Some ladies had never covered a cake before!

Making the sugar decorations while our cakes chill out in the fridge.

It was a relief to get upstairs in the cool to make the sprinkles and the cherry for the top of the cake. Very therapeutic sitting with a drink, rolling sprinkles in lots of different colours… no children or telephones to disturb you… bliss :)

Drippy icing and ribbon trim selection!

One of my favourite moments when making a cake is selecting the ribbon trim, even more so now that I’ve bought some fabulous Washi Tapes for the cake boards.

All lined up ready to go!

I was so looking forward to taking this photograph at the end of the day. Their final cakes look so pretty in an array of colours and drippy effects.

Well done ladies… on the hottest day of the year so far, you managed to cover a cake beautifully, I hope you’re all very proud and pleased with your results.

Hope to see you all again soon, Sx

Ben & Sarah Serruys

Sunday 6th April at 3.00pm, Kimberley Hall, Wymondham

Sarah and Ben tied the knot at the beautiful Kimberley Hall in Wymondham, Norfolk.

In my many years of making wedding cakes, I’ve visited many venues across Norfolk & Suffolk, delivering and setting up traditional wedding cakes and cupcake towers… this venue is now featuring quite high on my list of favourites.

Easily found via the bright pink gate houses, travel down the long sweeping driveway and the impressive

wedding cake cupcake tower

Sarah & Ben’s cupcake tower consisted of 106 large cupcakes in a mixture of flavours, Madagascan Vanilla, Zesty Lemon and Raspberry & White Chocolate Chip. Their theme was Vintage Lace & Pearls in various shades of ivory and pearl.

They chose Chocolate Fudge filled with Belgian Chocolate Ganache for their top cake, and were keen to have a handmade sugar Bride & Groom figurines for the top cake.

I do love a lace wrapper on a vintage cupcake… and the ivory roses dotted amongst the cupcakes really finishes it all off nicely.

Hope you like it! Sx
